Move or back up your game

Quiltoku keeps your progress on your own device. That keeps things private and simple, but it also means a new phone starts empty. The game code is the way across: a short piece of text that carries your streak, levels and stars from one device to another, with nothing sent to any server.

Why you might need it

Making a code

  1. Open Settings and find the Your game section.
  2. Tap Make a game code. A short summary tells you what the code holds: how many solved days, which level you are on and how many stars.
  3. Copy the code, send it to yourself with the Send button (a text message, email, WhatsApp, AirDrop, Notes, whatever you like), or save it as a file.

The code is short: a few lines of letters and numbers. A game with a long history still fits comfortably in a message. If you want the shortest possible code, there is an option to leave out your best times for each level, which makes it about a third of the size.

Loading a code

  1. On the other device, open Quiltoku, then Settings, then Your game.
  2. Tap Load a game code, paste the code in (or choose the saved file) and tap Check the code.
  3. The game shows what the code holds. If you also want your theme, marks and language to come across, tick Also copy my settings.
  4. Tap Add it to this device. The game reloads with everything merged.

Nothing is ever replaced

Loading a code adds to what is on the device. It never overwrites it. If you solved Monday on your phone and Tuesday on your tablet, loading the phone's code on the tablet gives the tablet both days. If both devices have a level, the better star count and the faster time are kept. Your streak is worked out from your solved days, so merging two histories gives the streak the combined days earn.

If you load the wrong code by mistake, Undo the last load in the same section puts everything back exactly as it was before.

What travels, and what does not

Keep it private

A game code is not a password, and it is not encrypted. It is your progress written down, so anyone who has it can load it into their own game. That is mostly harmless, because it holds no name, email or personal details, only puzzle results. Still, treat it like a note to yourself: send it to yourself, not to a stranger.

Quiltoku does not upload the code anywhere. It is made and read entirely on your device. If a code looks damaged or is cut off, the game says so rather than loading half of it.

If you get stuck, the questions and answers page and the contact page are the places to go. You can also read what the game does with your information on the your data page.
