Streaks: how a run of days is counted
A streak is the simplest idea in Quiltoku and the one people ask about most: how many days in a row have you solved the daily puzzle? This guide spells out exactly what counts, what does not, and what happens when a streak ends.
The rule
Your streak is the number of days in a row, ending today or yesterday, on which you solved the daily puzzle on its own day. Solve Monday's on Monday, Tuesday's on Tuesday, Wednesday's on Wednesday: three days. Skip Thursday entirely, and when Friday arrives the streak is gone.
A streak of three days, Monday to Wednesday, shown by its brain. The brain grows with each harder day. See the brains guide for why.
What counts
- Solving the day's puzzle on that day. From midnight to midnight by your own device's date.
- Any time of day. A solve at 00:05 counts just the same as one at 23:55.
- With or without hints. Using a hint never breaks or shortens a streak. Hints are part of how the game works, not a penalty.
What does not count
- Solving a past day late. It still earns a tick on your calendar and counts toward calendar stars, but a streak is about showing up on the day.
- Levels. Levels have their own progress and stars, and no streak of days. (Three stars in a row on levels is tracked separately.)
Today is still open
Your streak does not break at the stroke of midnight; it breaks when a whole day has gone by without a solve. Until you solve today's puzzle, your streak counts back from yesterday and stays alive. That gives you the entire day to keep it going, and a streak you are still protecting looks just as healthy at breakfast as at bedtime.
When a streak ends
If you miss a day, the streak ends. The first time you open the game afterwards, if the streak was two days or longer, you see the broken brain once, as a quiet acknowledgement. Then a new streak starts the next time you solve a day on its own day.
Nothing else is taken from you. Your solved days, your calendar, your stars and your levels are untouched. And the game remembers your best streak, with the dates it ran and the brain it earned, so a long run is never lost, only finished.
Streak bonuses
Every seventh day of a streak gives you two saved reveals, hints you can keep for a hard puzzle, up to three at a time. The bonus is given once per milestone, so breaking and restarting a streak does not give it twice. See the helpers guide.
Moving to a new device
A streak is calculated from your history of solved days, not stored as a number. That means a game code can carry it across, and merging two devices' histories gives the streak that all the combined days add up to.
