Keep my progress on all my devices (beta)
Quiltoku keeps your progress on your own device, which keeps it private but means a new phone starts empty. Sync is an optional beta feature that keeps your streak, calendar, levels and stars the same on up to five of your own devices, without an account and without a password.
The idea in one minute
When you turn sync on, your progress is copied to a small server as a short code, and each of your devices gets its own key. A device that has a key can fetch the latest copy, merge it into what it already has, and send the result back. You never type an email or a password. You only type a one-time code, once, when you add a second device.
Turning it on
- Open Settings, then the Game tab, scroll to Keep my progress on all my devices, and tap Set this up.
- Read the screen. It says what is sent and what is not, and that it is a test feature. Tick I understand and agree. Nothing is sent until you do.
- Tap Turn on sync on this device. Your progress is uploaded, and the Social tab shows that sync is on.
Adding another device
- On the device that already has sync, open Settings, Game, and tap Add a device. It shows an eight-character code. The code works once and expires in ten minutes.
- On the new device, open Settings, Game, Keep my progress on all my devices, tick the agreement, and type the code under Link this device.
- The new device joins and fetches your progress. Up to five devices can be linked. My devices lists them, and any linked device can remove another, for example a lost phone. A removed device is signed out at once.
When it syncs
After you win a puzzle, when you come back to the game after being away (at most every five minutes), and when the game starts. There is also a Sync now button. If you are offline, nothing breaks: the game works from its own copy and catches up later.
How devices merge
Sync only ever adds or improves. It never replaces what a device already has:
- Solved days: the days from every device are combined, so a streak survives a change of phone.
- Levels and stars: the highest level reached, and the most stars on each level.
- Best times: the fastest on each level and each day.
- Saved reveals and tips seen: the larger count, and the combined list.
Some things stay on the device you use them on, because they do not combine well: hearts, the puzzle you are in the middle of, and your settings (theme, marks, language).
What is sent, and what is not
Your solved days and times, your level progress and stars, your statistics, your saved reveals, and which tips you have seen. Never your name, email, location or settings. A random player number and a random key for each device are the only identifiers. The next guide explains how that information is protected, how long it is kept, and how to delete it.
Do I need this for friends groups?
No. Friends groups work on their own: the first time you create or join a group the game makes an anonymous player number for your device and sends no progress at all. Keeping your progress on all your devices is a separate choice. If you made a group first, you can add it later from the same screen (Keep my progress online), and you can stop at any time with Stop keeping my progress online, which empties the copy on the server and leaves your groups alone.
Turning it off
In Settings, Game, tap Turn off sync. You can choose this device only (your other devices keep syncing) or turn off and delete everything on the server. Either way your game on this device is not changed.
Sync or a game code?
The game code is a manual snapshot: good for a one-time move to a new phone, or as a backup that does not depend on any server. Sync is automatic and good when you play on more than one device. You can use both, and the game code stays available even if sync is ever switched off.
